This initiative has been developed by the UCAN research group at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC-CNS).

One of the key research topics of the UCAN group is Internet of Things. IoT becomes more pervasive, the number of sensors and actuators increases, and the need for latency sensitive applications is expected to explode in the near future. To this end, UCAN explores ways to tackle issues related to infrastructure, system architecture, performance, and security for IoT.

Other topics of research interest include processor architecture, Fog computing, network applications, real-time networking and processing, and memory management.
